Chapter 33

“I think it would probably be best if we camped here for the night,” said David. “I’d keep going, but it’s been a very long day.”

“Oh, that’s fine with me,” agreed Bailey. “It is getting pretty dark and I’d prefer not to travel through the forest during the night.”

“It’s settled,” said David while dropping his bag to the ground and pulling out supplies. “Casper? Do you think you guys could help us by finding some wood and forest debris about for making a fire? That would be greatly appreciated. Timmie, can you find a clean stream and fill this pot with water?”

“Gladly,” replied the Butterfree while the Frogadier accepted the metal pot in silence. “Alright guys, you heard him. We need wood.”

The Pokémon scattered around them. Even Bailey’s Jigglypuff and Swablu hurried to help.

“I know where to find enough berries in these trees for all the Pokémon present to eat,” said Scottie. “I grew up on this route. I’ll need help with them though.”

“Alright,” agreed David as he turned away from the yellow Pokémon and addressed Bailey. “Do you have any more Pokémon who would be able to help? Scottie says he knows where to find enough berries for everyone.”

“That’s a good idea,” exclaimed Bailey as she withdrew a couple of Poké Balls from her own purse-like bag. “Come on out Leaf, Bubble and Philip! You guys can help Scottie.”

From out of the girl’s balls appeared a small pale green Pokémon with large red eyes. It walked on all four legs while sporting a long leaf on top of its head. Next to it was a blue and tan seal Pokémon roughly the size of a large beach ball with a small tail and fins. The last Pokémon appeared to be a small blue penguin wearing a white scarf with a red heart blazoned across the front of it.

David set down his supplies for making a dinner for them and pulled out his Pokédex.

“Chikorita, the Leaf Pokémon,” stated the Pokédex as he moved it to scan the other two. “Spheal, the Clap Pokémon. Piplup, the Penguin Pokémon.”

The Chikorita whirled the leaf on its head with a cheer when his Pokédex announced which Pokémon it was. The Spheal had its eyes closed and was rocking gently. It shook itself and blinked in slowness when the Piplup poked it with a forceful jab.

“Interesting,” said David as they each hurried off to help in making preparations as well. “How did you come across each of your Pokémon? Since I’m doing a Wonderlocke Challenge, I won’t actually be catching any Pokémon on this journey, so I’m curious to know how it works for you.”

“You know I got my Jigglypuff just outside Mount Moon in Kanto,” started the girl with enthusiasm. “Professor Oak wanted to give me a starter from the traditional Kanto ones, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, but I wanted to start with a Jigglypuff.”

“Those are the three Professor Sycamore battled me with,” stated the boy. “I have a Wartortle back in the PC system. He started out as a Squirtle.”

Bailey grinned and continued on with a nod. “I was lucky Brock was visiting Pallet Town that day. He decided to personally escort me to find myself a Jigglypuff as my first ever Pokémon.

“After travelling around Kanto a bit, Professor Oak called me back to his lab. He’d received word of the discovery of the Fairy-type and confirmed suspicions that my Jigglypuff possessed some Fairy-like qualities. So, he updated my Pokédex to include each of the other Pokémon regions and asked that I travel to them in hopes of finding more Fairy-types.”

“I believe you’ve mentioned a lot of that before,” murmured David as he took stock of the wood the Pokémon had gathered. He began arranging it to make it suitable for starting a fire. “Just not in nearly so much detail.”

“Yeah,” agreed Bailey. “I went to Johto first as it was close enough to Kanto to share their Elite Four. The first town I visited was New Bark Town and that’s where Professor Elm let me have Leaf.

“I found that Snubbull turned out to be a Fairy-type, and so did Marill and Clefairy. The daycare couple also let me test out their new Togepi and it’s a Fairy as well. See, my Jigglypuff knows Gyro Ball, which is a Steel-type attack, and Drain Punch, which is a Fighting-type attack. Both are helpful as Steel attacks are super effective against Fairies, and Fighting are not very effective at all.”

“Wow,” said David while using a lighter to start some leaves and grass on fire and stuffing it into the cage of wood before blowing on it.

“I reported back to Professor Oak with my findings and he sent me to Hoenn to see what else I could find from the other regions,” continued Bailey as Scottie and her Pokémon returned with as many berries as they could carry. “I met Cotton and Bubble there. Gardevoir and Mawile where the only new Fairy-types I could confirm from my travels in Hoenn. That’s why I wanted to talk to Diantha.

“Philip was given to me by Professor Rowan when I journeyed to Sinnoh. Other than Mr. Mime and its pre-evolved form, Mime Jr., I had next to no luck there. Same with Unova. Only Cottonee and Whimsicott could be confirmed as Fairy-type there. That brings me here to Kalos where I have discovered the most Fairy-types out of all the regions so far!”

“Cool!” exclaimed David once he was satisfied the fire would burn on its own. “If Marill is a Fairy-type, than Azumarill should be too, right?”

“Yup,” said Bailey with a nod. “A Water/Fairy type now.”

“I have one on my team,” said David. “I haven’t used her yet as my Pokédex says she’s level 35. I thought I’d get a second badge before I take her out of the PC. I decided to name her Azmiralda.”

“That’s so pretty!” exclaimed the girl. “I bet she’s as pretty as her name. What other Pokémon do you have in your PC that you haven’t brought out yet?”

“I have a Meinfoo named Melina,” started David. “She’s with the yellow team and I think I’ll be withdrawing her for a bit once we get to Camphrier Town. No offense Scottie.”

“None taken,” replied the Scraggy as it directed the other Pokémon in splitting up the blue berries they had brought back.

“Azmiralda is on the red team, by the way,” continued David. “I have Gabriella the Gabite from the green team Casper here is from. Last I saw of her before putting her straight into the PC, she was not very happy to have been traded away.”

“Awww,” said Bailey with a sad smile. “I bet she was close to her trainer.”

“I think so too,” agreed the boy as he set the pot of water Timmie had returned with on the fire to boil. “She’s also a Dragon-type. I heard somewhere that they can get very emotional very easily. I’m expecting it to take a long time for her to trust me; even with my ability to understand her words.”

David fell into silence as he opened a package of soup mix and poured it into the pot.

“Besides her, I also have an Eevee named Evan on the green team,” stated the boy, his tone subdued while his pale green eyes remained downcast. “I suppose I should probably bring him out too.”

“Oh!” exclaimed Bailey in excitement. “That reminds me! It turns out that Eevee can evolve into a Fairy-type as well, called Sylveon. That makes it eight recorded ways an Eevee could evolve. Have you any idea which evolution you’ll want him to take on?”

“Nope,” replied David. “I was thinking of letting him decide for himself what he wants to be. Whatever it is, I will support him completely with his decision.”

“I’m pretty sure that makes you one of the best trainers I’ve met,” said Bailey with a grin. “The fact that you care about your Pokémon enough to allow them to evolve when they want to is all the proof I need. Would you like to add me on the Holo Caster app? I’d gladly call you a friend and rival if you’re up to it. I know we haven’t battled yet, but I think I’ll be ready to after we catch up to Max in Camphrier Town.”

“That would be cool,” said David with a grin while passing her his Pokédex. “I’ve never used it before, so you’ll have to teach me how to after we eat some dinner.”

“Will do,” said Bailey. “Whatever you’re cooking sure smells great! I can’t wait!”

This is a Fanfiction featuring the Wonderlocke mechanic under my own rules.

Talon's Rules
1. All Pokemon (with maybe the exception of your starter if you so wish) must have been obtained within a Wonder Trade upon starting the game.
2. You have six slots in your party. You must have three pokemon you can interchange per slot. Pokemon from the same group slot can never be in your party at the same time. Only one per group slot at a time. You will have a grand total of eighteen pokemon as part of your team.
3. If a Pokemon should faint, it is considered "DEAD" and must be either released or placed in the PC. Once all three pokemon from a group slot have fainted, you can only use five pokemon at a time.
4. No buying items (with the exception of the Poke Balls used to aid you in your Wonder Trade). All items are found in the region (or if you are super lucky, you may be able to rely on a pokemon whose ability is Pick Up as I have). TMs in the stores are the exception to this rule.

I do not own any characters that may coincide with characters from the games.
